What encryption is used?

PDFs are encrypted using AES-256-GCM with PBKDF2 key derivation. Note that this is a custom encryption format (not standard Adobe Reader password protection). Decryption requires WayPDF's Unlock tool.

Can I recover a lost password?

No. The encryption key is derived from your password and is never stored. If you lose the password, the PDF cannot be recovered.

Is it safe to protect PDFs online?

Yes. All encryption happens locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Your file and password never leave your device.

Can the encrypted PDF be opened in Adobe Reader?

No. WayPDF uses a custom AES-256-GCM encryption format, not standard PDF password protection. To decrypt, use WayPDF's Unlock PDF tool with the same password.
