What encryption types are supported?

This tool can decrypt PDFs encrypted with WayPDF's Protect tool (AES-256-GCM with PBKDF2). It cannot unlock standard Adobe Reader password-protected PDFs.

What happens if I enter the wrong password?

An error message is displayed indicating the password is invalid. No changes are made to your file.

Is it safe to unlock PDFs online?

Yes. All decryption happens locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Your file and password never leave your device.

Why can't this tool unlock standard PDF passwords?

Standard PDF password protection uses different encryption schemes (RC4, AES-128, AES-256) managed by Adobe. WayPDF uses a custom AES-256-GCM wrapping format, which is incompatible with standard PDF readers.
